People often report that positive things happen to them after they declutter. One client had a major transformation just from decluttering her clothes.
She referred to herself as a ‘clothes hoarder’. My client still had lots of clothes from before her pregnancy, all her maternity clothes and everything that came after her daughter was born. At the time of our decluttering sessions her daughter was three years old. She LOVED clothes.
The thought of sorting through it all was overwhelming for her. Her clothes were also stored in multiple places throughout her home which contributed to her feeling scattered and overwhelmed.
Step by step we walked through the process of decluttering all her clothes, shoes, purses, scarves and hats. In between our sessions she worked diligently on her own and got rid of many, many bags of clothes.
She also rediscovered things she loved but had forgotten about because they had been buried in the clutter. Finding lost treasures is a benefit of decluttering.
Letting go of all those clothes freed up a lot of space and energy in her body, mind, spirit and home. As a result, a number of positive changes happened in her life.
First, she felt very energized to rearrange her space in a way that worked much better for her family.
Whereas beforehand it seemed impossible. She had several large and heavy pieces of furniture that got placed in an awkward place when they moved into the house, and there they stayed.
Their placement was frustrating but it had felt like way too much work to get them moved because they were heavy. Now she had energy and motivation to get the help she needed to move things around. And the new placement felt great!
Shortly after our work together, she received a career opportunity which seemed to come out of nowhere.
Career was the area of her life she had set an intention for with our decluttering work. She was thrilled with this new direction for her career and saw it as a direct result of her deep decluttering.
Another big change was the difference it made in how she felt in her home.
Before decluttering her clothes, she said she felt ungrounded, scattered and stressed about her home. So much so she was avoiding spending time there. She realized that her feelings about her home had been interfering with being the present parent that she desperately wanted to be and this weighed heavily on her shoulders. This was her motivation for decluttering.
After decluttering her clothes, she said that for the first time she felt grounded and serene at home and could be more present with her daughter.
All of this was simply from thoroughly and mindfully decluttering her clothes!!
